Dear me at 16:
First thing’s first. Trust me when I say that Brad Pitt, although he cleans up (mighty) nice and is a pretty talented actor, is NOT what he’s cracked up to be. Enjoy your fantasy now, but know that it’s a fantasy. It turns out to be a good thing that you and Laurin didn’t actually hijack a car to drive cross country to throw burritos at his house. That kind of behavior is frowned upon in the real world.
Secondly, buy those purple docs! I know they are expensive and you’re afraid you can’t pull them off. You totally can. You’ll be sorry you never did.
Thirdly, you are way too worried about what people think of you. Stop fighting your natural curl and stop wearing baggy clothes. Scratch that. Don’t. You ARE waay too worried about what people think, but you’re also 16. Just know that in the end, you are NOT a square peg in a round hole. There are millions of people out there in the world and you’ll end up being friends with people you never imagined you would.
Oh, another thing! You’ll loose touch with some very important people in your life, but you’ll find them again (thank you Facebook) and they’ll be just as important to you at 31 as they are now (possibly more), even across the miles.
You should also know that you have really good instincts. You should listen to them once in a while.
Lastly (atleast for now): Zinfandel and Taco Bell may seem like a good idea at the time. You WILL regret this combination the morning after, I promise.
There’s definitely more to this wisdom, but I know how you like to process things so I’ll catch up with you in another little while.
Your future self
